Talking Is Teaching

We are proud to partner with Too Small To Fail and Landscape Structures to bring literacy to the playground with our learning-based environments in Minnesota. Through Too Small To Fail’s “Talking Is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing” campaign, we aim to create environments that promote child and caregiver interaction while fostering play and literacy.

Let's Talk Playgrounds

It is known that simple, everyday interactions such as talking, reading, and singing to young children – especially during the first five years of life – can improve language skills, boost brain development, and have a lifelong positive impact. We are passionate about creating environments with educational playground equipment in Minneapolis communities that provide the opportunity for these interactions to occur through play and education.

The Word Gap

Research has shown that by age 3, there is a 30 million word gap between children from the wealthiest and poorest families. Eliminating this inequality will require early interventions that promote literacy in engaging ways, before the age of kindergarten and formal education. We believe that educational playgrounds in Minneapolis can play a large role within these interventions and that through play, The Word Gap can begin to be eliminated.

Action Through Design

In creating these environments, we see an opportunity to expand the role of play in a child’s life. We also believe that providing a learning playground Minnesota families can enjoy together is a great opportunity for helping parents or caregivers develop new relationships with their children, all while participating in the play experience. Multi-generational design focuses on creating cooperative play experiences for children and caregivers, with benefits for all.
